Position overview
We are seeking a reliable, patient, and attentive Independent Living Services (ILS) mentor to provide support for individuals with disabilities, ranging from; Mild Intellectual Disability, Autism and Cerebral Palsy. Services will focus on increasing independence in daily living skills, such as Hygiene, (showering and dressing for the day) community navigation, meal planning, cleaning, budgeting, self advocacy, safety protocols, independent recreation, Financial Literacy and exercise while ensuring safety and accessibility. The ideal candidate is adaptable, observant, and comfortable supporting an individual with showering (bathing) and personal needs.

Primary Goals of Support
  • Daily personal hygiene and self-care routines
  • Support safe and confident community navigation
  • Assist with budgeting
  • Meal prep/cooking
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and support with personal routines
  • Encourage independence while offering assistance as needed
  • Help establish consistent daily routines

Related Challenges
The individual may present unique challenges that staff must be prepared to address, including:

Navigation & Safety
 
  • Additional guidance may be required to safely navigate environments
  • Staff may need to provide orientation support, mobility assistance.

Communication & Accessibility

Tasks involving : Understanding and encourage the individual to express their preferences, needs, and concerns using their preferred communication style.

Adapted Training Needs

Tasks involving: May require ongoing support to generalize learned skills across different environments and situations. Adaptive training will focus on building confidence, increasing independence, and improving overall quality of life.

Ideal Candidate Qualities
 
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred
  • Strong communication, observation, and problem-solving skills
  • Patient, dependable, and adaptable
  • Comfortable providing hands-on support while promoting independence
  • Able to work independently during scheduled early am hours

Work Environment
 
  • One-on-one support in home and community settings
  • Clients  schedule
  • Structured, supportive, and safety-focused role

Job Requirements
 

Required Qualifications & Compliance

  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, and Cerebral Palsy preferred.
  • Patient, dependable, and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and observation skills
  • Ability to provide hands-on assistance as needed
  • Two forms of valid identification
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Live Scan fingerprint clearance
  • Current TB test clearance
