Position overview
We are seeking a reliable, patient, and attentive Independent Living Services (ILS) coach to provide one-on-one support for individuals with Cerebral palsy and Autism. Services will begin at 6am and end at 8am, Monday through Friday before ACCESS arrives. The focus is on increasing independence in daily living skills, that include Hygiene, (showering and dressing & supporting the client to get ready for the day) The ideal candidate is adaptable, to showering, dressing, brushing and doing the clients hair. Also, cooking/preparing breakfast, and prepping the clients lunch pail for day program. also, experience with putting on compression socks and shoes. Always being observant, and comfortable supporting an individual with their induvial needs of support.
Primary Goals of Support
• Morning bathing routine
• Support with hair and dressing
• Assist with making breakfast, getting lunch pail ready for day program
• Putting on compression socks and support shoes.
Key Responsibilities
Personal support
• Provide guidance and support with consistent routines
• Encourage independence while helping as needed
• Help establish consistent morning routines
Related Challenges
An individual’s disability may present unique challenges that staff must be prepared to address, including:
Safety
• Additional guidance may be required to safely navigate environments
• Staff may need to provide orientation support, or mobility assistance.
Communication & Accessibility
Tasks involving, promote independence, self-determination, and community inclusion. This position assists individuals in developing and maintaining personal bathing skills while respecting each person's abilities.
Adapted Training Needs
Tasks involved: to increase independence in daily living skills. Using person-centered and accessible teaching strategies, the specialist adapts communication, learning methods, and activities to meet everyone’s unique abilities and needs.
Ideal Candidate Qualities
• Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, and physical disabilities
• Strong communication
• Patient, dependable, and adaptable
• Comfortable providing hands-on support while promoting independence
• Able to work independently during scheduled early am hours
Work Environment
• One-on-one support in home
• Clients schedule
• Structured, supportive, and safety-focused role
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications & Compliance
• Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, and Cerebral Palsy preferred.
• Patient, dependable, and adaptable approach
• Strong communication and observation skills
• Ability to provide hands-on assistance as needed
• Two forms of valid identification
• Current CPR and First Aid certification
• Live Scan fingerprint clearance
• Current TB test clearance
