Caregiver Full Time
Position Summary
The Caregiver will provide compassionate, respectful, and individualized support to a 27-year-old adult who is autistic and communicates primarily through non-speaking methods. The caregiver's role is to promote the client's safety, independence, dignity, comfort, and participation in daily activities while following the client's individualized care plan.
The caregiver should understand that being non-speaking does not mean the client is unable to communicate. The caregiver should learn and consistently use the client's preferred communication methods, which may include gestures, facial expressions, visual supports, communication devices, or other established methods.
Essential Caregiving Responsibilities
Provide supervision and support to promote the client's health, safety, and well-being.
Assist with activities of daily living as authorized and identified in the client's care plan.
Provide assistance with personal care, hygiene, grooming, dressing, and other personal needs when required.
Assist with meal preparation and support the client during meals as appropriate.
Encourage appropriate hydration and nutrition according to the client's established routine and care instructions.
Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and organized living environment.
Support the client with daily routines and scheduled activities.
Assist with transportation or community activities when authorized.
Accompany the client to appointments, recreational activities, shopping, or community outings when included in the care plan.
Encourage independence by allowing the client to complete tasks independently whenever possible.
Provide appropriate prompting and assistance rather than completing tasks unnecessarily for the client.
Monitor the client's general well-being and report concerns to the appropriate supervisor or responsible party.
Follow all individualized care instructions, safety procedures, and company policies.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and respect the client's privacy and dignity.
Document services and activities accurately as required.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with feeding and meal support
- Provide bathing and personal hygiene assistance
- Assist with toileting and incontinence care as needed
- Perform safe transfers using proper transfer techniques and equipment (transfer experience required)
- Assist with dressing and grooming
- Monitor the client's comfort and well-being
- Maintain a clean and safe environment
- Communicate professionally with the client and family members
