Caregiver 3p-11pm
2:1 case
Position Overview
All Care Homecare is seeking a compassionate, dependable, attentive, and engaging Caregiver / Direct Support Professional to support a 28-year-old male with autism, epilepsy, and a moderate intellectual disability.
The ideal candidate must be proactive, patient, and interactive, with a strong commitment to providing consistent supervision, meaningful engagement, and individualized support. The client uses a speech-generating communication device to communicate, so the caregiver must be comfortable supporting his communication and encouraging him to express his needs, preferences, and choices.
This position requires a caregiver who actively engages with the client throughout the shift. The expectation is to interact with him, participate in activities, and provide meaningful companionship rather than simply being present in the home.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain appropriate supervision and actively engage with the client throughout the shift.
Use and support the client's speech-generating communication device, allowing him time to communicate and respond.
Encourage communication by offering choices, asking appropriate questions, and responding to his expressed needs and preferences.
Participate in interactive activities, games, hobbies, and other activities suited to his interests and abilities.
Support social interaction, communication, and skill development through everyday activities.
Assist with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, and other personal care needs as outlined in his care plan.
Follow the individualized epilepsy seizure action plan and agency procedures, recognizing seizure activity and responding appropriately.
Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
Assist with meals, hydration, and daily routines as needed.
Encourage independence while providing assistance when necessary.
Follow established behavioral support strategies and respond calmly and respectfully to changes in mood or behavior.
Document care, activities, and significant incidents accurately.
Communicate concerns and changes in the client's condition to the appropriate supervisor.
Qualifications
Previous caregiving or Direct Support Professional (DSP) experience preferred.
Experience supporting individuals with autism, epilepsy, or intellectual disabilities is a plus.
Comfortable learning and using a speech-generating communication device.
Patient, attentive, interactive, and dependable.
Able to maintain active engagement and appropriate supervision throughout the shift.
Comfortable participating in activities and providing ongoing companionship.
Able to follow individualized care plans and seizure response procedures.
Willing to complete required training, background checks, and applicable clearances.
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification as required.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, interactive, patient, and genuinely interested in building a positive relationship with the client. The caregiver should take initiative in planning activities, encourage communication through his device, and help him remain engaged throughout the day.
This is not a position for someone who prefers to sit back and observe. The client needs a caregiver who will actively participate, communicate with him, provide companionship, and support his independence while maintaining safety and dignity.
Our goal is to provide person-centered care that promotes communication, engagement, safety, independence, and an improved quality of life.
